I taught English and Drama for 16 years, but for the past 6 years have been working freelance, running workshops in schools right across the UK to promote reading and writing for pleasure. I was really pleased when invited to be a contributing writer on Write Path 2010.
For librarians and teachers, I run workshops which explore fiction using drama activity - the pupils are encouraged to actively explore the openings of books, getting hooked on characters, plots or themes. I've worked with small groups of 4 and massive groups of 100+. Alternatively, I work on short story or poetry writing with smaller groups of up to 20.
For pupils, I run Class of Dave from my website, which is a free weekly writing challenge to win regular prizes for yourself and your school.
For myself, I am constantly working at my own writing. My latest successes are: a play called The Lock, written for London-based ReSister Theatre Company and some teaching materials for the Driver Dan website ( a Ceebeebies character ).
