"Excellent. A real flight of the imagination. I liked the way that not only were the characters and their personalities picked up and carried on by you young writers, but also the style of writing was echoed too. There is some quite brilliant use of…"

"Lovely writing everyone - the images are really strong and there is some great use of personification to bring nature alive. My favourite line has to be Joe's ' like a breath exiled from the earth' - briliant!"

"The adults didn't come out of this game too well - actually, you all turned it into a kind of war where we wise, good-looking ones got battered to pieces basically! Well done everyone - enjoyed reading this, plus I liked the idea that the teens…"

"Brilliant. Well done to all of you on all of this. Some high action, real tension, great descriptions and sharp dialogue - a very pacy continuation for Sime. At the end I thought he was done for, but when his soul came back for revenge, that was a…"

"Fabulous idea, we already use Dave's 'Class of Dave' prompts and ideas in our creative writing groups, but interest from other authors too would certainly boost our aspiring authors... Good idea Dave :)"

"This is so good, seeing how it all develops from school to school, the way the narrative switches and picks up new bits of mystery which others carry on. I like the way that it changes focus to Billy's voice too. I was running poetry workshops…"

A little bit about me ...

I taught English and Drama for 16 years, but for the past 6 years have been working freelance, running workshops in schools right across the UK to promote reading and writing for pleasure. I was really pleased when invited to be a contributing writer on Write Path 2010.

For librarians and teachers, I run workshops which explore fiction using drama activity - the pupils are encouraged to actively explore the openings of books, getting hooked on characters, plots or themes. I've worked with small groups of 4 and massive groups of 100+. Alternatively, I work on short story or poetry writing with smaller groups of up to 20.

For pupils, I run Class of Dave from my website, which is a free weekly writing challenge to win regular prizes for yourself and your school.

For myself, I am constantly working at my own writing. My latest successes are: a play called The Lock, written for London-based ReSister Theatre Company and some teaching materials for the Driver Dan website ( a Ceebeebies character ).
