Encouraging links between students and school staff around the globe
Several people have asked me whether you are going to be asked to vote this year and I was going to but I realise for lots of you it's impossible to find time so this year will be different - I have been lucky enough to have been able to recruit a crack team of librarian judges. I am so grateful to these ladies for giving up their time to do this. Ladies & gentlemen may I present our dream team!:

I love Write Path every year and we always have a very high standard of writing but this year has been just fantastic! The poetry days in particular were wonderful with thoughtful stanzas contributed from all our participating schools. I will be working on the book (with help from my wonderful son!) in the next few weeks and hope to get your complementary copies out to you before Christmas. Looking forward to Write Path March now, more details soon.
Have a good week everyone ,…

It was the only one in the charity shop but Sky knew immediately she had to have it. There was a sticker on its dear stubby nose. £1.50. All the money she had in her purse.
Would she get into trouble?
She glanced over her shoulder. Mum was looking through the books and Emma was pushing hangers on the jeans rail,…

“Now don’t forget,” said the woman. She gave me the envelope. “Promise you’ll remember. Give this to your dad the instant you get home, all right?”
“I’ll remember,” I said.
But then at school, I forgot my maths homework, and got put in detention, and then I got into a row with Ms Rasheed because I didn’t go, and I…

The book looked older than my gran, and that was saying something. Over time, so many fingers had gripped it and touched it that the title had long disappeared and all that was left was the name of its author: Francis Darke. I was warned not to read the book. I was told that it would change my life for ever, but I couldn't stop myself. The dark leather cover seemed to open by itself within my hands...…

I'd done plenty of revision. Dad had tested me the night before, and I'd got almost everything right. But sitting in the exam hall, my mind was blank. No, that's not the word. My head wasn't empty; it was full. My brain was throbbing with memory, but not with the facts the teachers wanted me to recall. There was no room for them. All I could think about was what had happened on the way to school. Everything had been normal until I turned the…

I lean my head back against the pillow, allowing my cheek fall against the starchy-white sheet, my eyes to close against the bright lights. Beside me, machines bleep and buzz, and a drip feeds medicine through a tube into my veins. My head aches, and the pain sears through me as though someone has split it open like a coconut and then pressed it back together carelessly, leaving a ragged wound. …

There was a knock at the door. Carly knew she shouldn’t open it really. Dad would be home in a minute and he would know what to do.
Carly held her breath. Then the knocking started again, only more urgently now.
“Come on Carly, open up.” It was all right. It was Dad.…

Touchstones
I remember a stone.
It was the size of a small hand
And it rolled down into the sea,
Beating the larger stone.
I remember a plant.
It was a strange thing,
Like a creature with a face -
It begged to be spoken to.…

War Versus Peace
War is a hammer.
It batters the life from all.
It cracks fragile hearts.
Peace is a hammer.
It can knock you into shape.
It cracks hearts…

Marching brown rows, furrow-filled fields
mirror stone ranks of white.
Seeded by death, war's bloody yield -
a harvest culled by Night.

When I think of you
Is a dirty orange sock
And a worn-out shoe.

Remember last week
When your Grandma bit my arm?
Now, I’m a were-gran!
My poem is a haiku - so that means it's over 3 lines of 5 syllables, 7 syllables & 5 syllables. Good luck! - Tommy…

This was a really fun activity. We really got to get to know our partners, and it helped us have the ability to write amazing stories! Its interesting to write the conclusion to the story, since we could read all the other paragraphs. I was also hard because we got really into it, but had to wrap all of the parts of the story together. This was an amazing experience, and we were lucky to participate in international writing this year!

This story was amazing. The project was pheonimnal as well, the authors had such an imagination it was very stunning to see others write this well. It was also very fun to write with other countries as well. The adjectives used were very descriptive too. It was very interesting to also see what others were thinking. So over all this experience was magnificent.

I'd like to say, having done this a couple of times before, that our story-writing session was a serene experience...but of course it was the usual mayhem. The kids had a blast, loved their story starters and learned a lot from the processes.
Good luck to all the remaining writers for today!

Ashcroft High school.
8.00 a.m. Monday morning. My first day. Eek.
Mrs Baldwin, my new form teacher, is the first person I meet. She comes sweeping down a corridor towards me and Dad, and I don't mind telling you that the first sight of her scares me half to death. Her chin is so pointy it reminds…
