He gave a choice.
Door one would take me back to the world I’d left behind. To my family and friends. I would be a normal boy once again. No more falling through time, no more chasing shadows, no more death and destruction…
Door two, he told me, would mean darkness and pain. It would take me to the end of my wits and throw me far beyond. I would enter a world far more evil than the one I had just left. How was that even possible, I asked?
Evil does not lessen, he said. It breeds. It multiplies.
And then he said this:
Door two will mean almost certain death.
So I waited a moment, and I watched his ruby eyes glow beneath his hood.
And then I pushed open the door.
