The Dastur pricked his finger and smeared blood across the boy’s forehead. He bowed low and whispered, “A King doesn’t choose to be King.”

At that moment, I felt a tingling sensation over powering my body; freezing my brain; not knowing what was happening. I felt the blood on my forehead drip down onto my face and freeze up.

Suddenly, when Dastur took his finger off my forehead; and turned away I closed my eyes and saw my mother’s beautiful face; looking at me the way the Dastur was; in a loving but frightening way.

Something hit me. I got distracted by the Dastur as he dropped something. I looked at him and he turned back to me like he knew what I was doing.

Flashing red lights;  a beast – like face appeared as the Dastur’s head. Was this really happening? I was frightened; I was scared. I couldn’t scream, my saliva clogged up inside my throat. I prayed for help but it never came. I closed my eyes, and took a deep breath, and wished this had never happened to me…

I drifted away into the darkness; hallucinating, I thought I saw the beast again.

Seconds later, I felt awake but my eyes didn’t open. I woke to the sound of my alarm clock. I felt sweat drip down my face and my arms and body were soaking wet.

I jumped out of bed and ran into the bathroom and took my crucifix with me. I needed to get to the church but I was afraid to leave my house.

Finally, I stood at the door of the church, I held my breath and thought  to myself, “I can do this… maybe it’s just a dream.” The next thing I felt was…

The crucifix moved, I dropped it, it hit the floor and smashed revealing a hidden scroll, I picked up the scroll, opened it and read the most important words of my life- the words “Your day will come my son, you will be king, protect yourself with the crucifix!”. I cast my eyes to the ground and saw the wreck that was my crucifix, something caught my eye, a growing shadow- I scooped up my crucifix and the shadow disappeared, what was happening? What was this shadow and why did it want me? I ran back to my home I threw myself on the bed, and a thought crossed my mind, the message wasn’t for me? Was it? Could I actually be a king?

Surely it was all a mistake. I went downstairs, deciding that if I did something normal, everything would turn back to normal. I opened the fridge and grabbed some juice, then went to the big cupboard for crisps, but as I pulled open the door I was engulfed in a dazzling light. I threw my arms in front of my face by instinct, then realised the dazzling light seeping through my closed eyelids was warm, and pleasant.

As I gradually became aware of my surroundings and my eyes got used what I now realised was bright sunshine, I realised I was no longer in the kitchen at home, I was on a beach. A beautiful beach. A beach where a big sign was being put up which said; “Coronation Ceremony, 7pm tonight. Come celebrate the new King.”

Just then a shocked voice asked, “Your Highness, what are you doing down here?”

I felt a cold breeze, following me in, as I opened the door. When I looked into the Church crypt. Nothing was there.I knew something was haunting me from the way I felt.
I felt blood dripping from my skull to my feet as the cold breeze went through me. It went dark. I was blinded by the darkness. Voices were in my head. I turned, dazed - and then...

I turned around to Dastur, the same man that was in my dream. I tried to respond, but he was gone before I had the chance to speak. I managed to follow him, using every last breath I had. His feet were getting faster an faster, and I could barely keep up. I finally got to the point where Dastur was, a dark graveyard. He was kneeling in front of a tombstone, sobbing with his head in his hands. I started to say something when I caught a glimpse of the tombstone. It read Alexander Graer Middleton, my name.
