The Shadow on the water
I lazed upon the sun-scorched beach, and
Watched my tiny, freckled, laughing daughter
Splashing in the waves that washed the sand
When, there! a shadow in the deeper water …
Out of the depths, a shark swam by,
Rising from the deep of the sea.
My daughter gave a piercing cry,
Enough to startle me.
The water was cold when I dived down deep,
Sending shivers up my spine.
I saw my daughter in a mangled heap,
She was only nine…

As I swam down into the deep sea to rescue her,
There was a shark lurking there.
It had lots of brown fur,
As it left, it's remains were a pile of hair.
Then I remembered I had to save the girl,
I grasped for her and took the girl to the surface,
She was as wet as a dog in a puddle!

I scanned the dock for a helping hand,
I then realised that the threat wasn’t the shadow in the water,
But the everlasting shadow that followed my daughter.

hunting, stalking it murmered to her
it whispered her name over and over
awaiting and seeking only her answer

But she could not give a final answer
As I noticed her heart beating faster
Her face was as white as a sheet
Her eyes like daggers looking up
