Encouraging links between students and school staff around the globe
There was a knock at the door. Carly knew she shouldn’t open it really. Dad would be home in a minute and he would know what to do.
Carly held her breath. Then the knocking started again, only more urgently now.
“Come on Carly, open up.” It was all right. It was Dad.
She reached up and turned the lock.
“We’ve got to hide. They’re coming.”
Carly stared at her dad. What was it? Were they going to a fancy dress party or something? Instead of his normal chinos and scruffy jumper he was wearing a velvet cloak, a black mask and long leather boots.
“Who’s after us? Why are you dressed like that?
“Ssh! Switch the light off. Hide behind the chair.
Carly did as she was told. Dad moved over to the window and peeped out from behind the curtain. “Keep quiet and keep still.”
He breathed in sharply. “Brace yourself.”
There was bright flash of light and a loud bang. The house shook.
