Encouraging links between students and school staff around the globe
I thought it was a risk worth taking. I was late. I didn't want to get put in detention again. That was why I took the shortcut through the churchyard. That was why I was running and not taking any notice of what was happening around me. At first I thought the dark figure up ahead must be the vicar, angry that I was disturbing the peace of the sacred ground, but this was no holy man. It wasn't a man at all. It wasn't a woman either, nor any animal I could name.
The creature said nothing, but held up one arm, commanding me to stop. I looked around. The strange being wasn't alone. I knew I was in real trouble now.
