Mikey’s Ride.

Mikey was quite scared of skateboards but if he told the other boys at Pikeham Juniors they’d all laugh at him. So when everyone else went off to the park with their boards he made some excuse about helping his Dad fix the car. It sounded better than helping Mum. He never expected to be actually forced into having a skateboard.

Then just as the school holidays started his big brother Jonno came into the kitchen carrying his old scuffed board with the loose wheel and dropped it on the floor. It skidded sideways and banged into a cupboard.

“Here squid,” growled Jonno, his voice deeper now it’d broken. “About time you learnt some moves.” Then he went out slamming the front door behind him.

Now what, thought Mikey, staring at the board in horror.

“Now get on for the ride of your life,” came a voice and to Mikey’s amazement the board lit up in fluorescent red and yellow and slid across the floor to rest at his feet.

The room sunk into darkness with a cloud passing in front of the sun.

It starts to get cold and Mikey heard rain lashing down outside.

Mikey looked down at the board flashing at him from the floor, and fell back over in astonishment.

After getting up he kicked the board to get it out of his way, but his foot just went through it. It was as if the board was not there, a hologram or even a ghost…

Although he could not touch the board with his hands, Mikey realised he could step on to it. Mikey stood on the skateboard. He felt a power, unlike anything he had ever known... Mikey felt invincible! Without him realising, the skateboard had untold powers!

He was standing on the skateboard and he said softly, ‘I wish this skate board could fly’ and so it did! Mikey realised, the skateboard would follow his every command!

He swooped out of the back door and up into the sky. That might not have been a good idea as the storm was still raging and lightning was forking across the heavens but the board seemed to have an instinct for where it was going to hit and without Mikey needing to do anything it always swerved out of the way just in time. "Wow, this is amaaaaazing!!!" Mikey screamed at the top of his voice loving ever minute of this crazy flight. He was flying faster and faster leaving his home town behind but suddenly looking down he spotted....

Mikey spotted an enormous jelly green figure, which was coming closer and closer to him. The figure was as tall as the distance between the earth and the moon. His eyes were a bright red like molten ash. After this long description the green jelly shadow came so close that you  could feel his whiff coming towards. He did not know what to do.  He started to scream as loud as his throat  permitted him.His heartbeat got faster and faster and his breath got heavier. Nobody could hear him. He ordered his skate to go faster but the skate would not move off a single centimeter. He started yelling at the skateboard, but nothing would happen. The figure slowly approached, but he still could not move. While the figure was around the corner, thunders  were as loud as fireworks on the fourth of July. The rain poured as usual in the city of Oxford but the creature was insensitive to this weather. It was one meter away and Mikey understood he had no escape out.

Without warning, everything stopped the world stopped spinning the lightning froze and all the rain floated lifelessly in the air. All of a sudden an odorous smell preached his nostrils making his stomach churn. The bright red eyes seemed to glair into his soul reading his minds every though. A large gust of wind sent a terrifying chill spiralling up his spine. What could he do? “Do not be afraid I am here to help,” A sinister voice said. “Who are you what do you want!” he said whilst frantically squirming in the air. “That will all be explained shortly,” the alien replied.

Gingerly, the large mysterious figure reached out to touch his face he tried to turn away but he couldn’t stop it and with one swift movement Mikey was sent to a new place that he had never been to before…

Suddenly conscious, Mikey’s eyes slowly adjusted to the unnatural fluorescent lights. Cautiously, he raised his head and placed his hand upon the damp soil beneath him. His tremoring body suddenly came to a stiff when a piercing screech filled the air. A shadow towered over him and deep gushes of wind followed as a cold hand masked the frightened boy’s mouth.  “You are safe.” The hand rapidly removed itself from the mortified child’s mouth and the figure that was once behind him had now relocated itself to the front of Mikey’s unstable body. His eyes widened and almost instantly closed again when he saw the hideous creature of what appeared to be his brother. With heavy breaths he managed to position himself up straight on the ground…

and slowly stood up infront of Jonno, with his hands far out in front of him.

"Wait... so... you're an alien..? "  Mikey questioned his brother.

" Well, yeah, pretty much. " He responded.

" Hmmm.... " Mikey thought to himself, " Well, okay then, I guess... " Mikey walked around the mysterious world, that had basket ball hoops, weights, and even some skateboard ramps. It definently looked like Jonno's mind. He grabbed my hand and went straight toward to the ramps. The skateboard was flying around in circles, around the two, and it stopped at the bottom of the ramp. Jonno picked Mikey up, and levitated to the top of the shortest ramp there. It was about a story and a half tall. Mikey shivered with fear, and told himself that he was NOT going to do this. Mikey stared down at Jonno, who had a smile on a face and just gave him a thumbs up. The skateboard rolled up on top of the slope, and was ready to go down the hill. Mikey slowly stepped up onto the flashing lit skateboard. He clipped on his helmet, and was ready to go. He gave himself a push off the top of the ramp. The skateboard made a clicking noise, almost as loud as an elephant blowing it's trunk. Click, click, Click, click. Mikey finally felt safe, and opened his eyes, as he was having the time of his life.

A couple months later of going to the mystery land, and more excuses of helping his dad, was finally over. Mikey was finally the best in Pikeham, he thanked his brother and was on his way to ride with his friends. He was no longer scared, and used the skateboard Jonno had given him.

No longer was the board , just scruffed up and old, it was now, Mikey's " Lucky board " and he lived Happily ever After.
