The light was coming from the old forester's hut in the woods. The hut had lain derelict for as long as I could remember, secured by a heavy chain and a rusted padlock. The windows were curtained with heavy, black material to prevent prying eyes seeing inside. But here was a light winking in the night. At least one of those curtains must have been removed. But by whom? And why?
The following morning I made my way to the hut. Just as I had thought the black-out curtain had been removed from one grimy window. To my surprise there, on a filthy tarpaulin, a man in his early twenties lay fast asleep. He was bruised and cut. I didn't know what to make of him.

So I quickly walked away hoping that I wouldn’t wake him, when I came across an old rugged looking man that was playing a guitar in the bush. I hid behind a nearby shrub crouched down so the man couldn’t see me, he started singing the words “ forgive me father for what I have done.” I automatically thought that he had done something bad to the man. But that was only what I thought and my Mum always told me to never judge a book by its cover, so I didn’t know what to think, I snuck around the shrubs praying that the man will not find me, I ran home terrified…

My eyes were tired but somehow I couldn’t get to sleep. I was shivering with fear and could feel the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I was too worried to think about anything other than what I’d seen in the bush. I decided to go and get myself a drink as I thought it might have been the only thing I hadn’t tried that would help me go to sleep. As I was walking down the stairs, my mum’s door creaked open though I knew for a fact that she was asleep. I entered the kitchen, my knees trembling like jelly. I poured my drink carefully into a glass, but as I turned to go, out of the corner of my eye, I could see a figure reflected in the window. I abandoned my drink as it smashed on the floor and ran upstairs back to my bed. I covered my head with the pillow and waited until the sun rose high in the sky. I knew I should go back to the bush, I knew I had to, but something told me it was a dangerous place. I forced myself to get up, get dressed and go to the bush...

By the time I got there the man was gone. I decided to investigate around the woods. There was something on the floor glistening under the sun. I got closer to see what it was. It was a metal shard. It had some strange symbols on it. I put it in my pocket and went back round the corner. There was a man facing me - he had got to be 6'4" with brown eyes, a scar underneath his lips and black hair. I stood still in shock. He started to walk towards me with a knife in his hand. I quickly took the metal shard out of my pocket and stabbed him in the thigh then ran home. I did not tell my mum what had happened. The next morning I went passed the woods. I sensed a man watching me. I checked the shard in my pocket - it started to glow. It made me sleepy, I collapsed, and I awoke in another dimension. "Welcome to my domain. What creature are you?", said a demonic voice. I stayed silent.
"Uuuuuhhhhh, the silent type I see - we will soon change that."

“AHHHHHHHHHHHH!” he screamed while he ran as fast as he could in the opposite direction the voice was coming from and then he realised the voice wasn’t getting further away it was getting closer.
”I’m coming for you “, growled the voice. Suddenly, a ghostly figure rose freakishly from the darkness and uttered these words, “give me the shard of power or I will slaughter your family, friends and not forgetting you“. At that moment he realised the ghostly figure looked exactly like the man he had just stabbed earlier that day.

As he staggered towards me, I saw a look of insanity in his face, with eyes too dangerous to stare at and a body that held no flesh. I felt fear clouding up my heart, I smelt the tears rolling silently down my burning skin… burning skin… burning…
“Muuuuuum!”
Suddenly, a flash of light appeared and the silhouette of a hooded figure emerged.

The light intensified around the hooded figure and I suddenly felt very calm. The figure pointed to the left and I heard a voice I somehow recognised tell me to "Go". Leaving them to their battle that I reasoned had nothing to do with me I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, clutching the shard tightly. The scenery changed as I ran, first a mountain range, then a forest and a beach. But still as I ran the mucus choked voice followed me echoing in my ears. "Give me the Shard Talisman or I will unleash the power within." I had no idea what the power within was but I was sure that I didn’t want to find out. Up ahead I saw a blinding light almost like a rip in the scenery. I stumbled through gasping for breath. As I looked around I saw I was in a graveyard of some kind. The air was thick with tension and the sky as black as coal. At the end of the grass there was a magnificent building towering above the graveyard. It had an aura of mystery and intrigue. On each window sill sat a gargoyle, their intent gaze landing upon me. Something about them seemed almost human. I shivered and the hairs stood up on the back of my neck- I was not alone.....

I tried to fall asleep but I couldn’t because I was thinking about all of the things that had happened to me. Finally I fell asleep! However this was not for long. I heard a rumbling of stone, the gargoyle took flight! I ran up to a big tomb and crouched up against the wall. I saw some type of light flickering, what was it? I snuck along the wall, my heart was pumping and I could taste the bitter fear of my life… when I came to the light I realised it was a wooden torch. I yanked it violently off the wall then held it in front of me. There was a shadow glowing through the cracks between walls. I pushed one of the stones thinking this might get me out of this place!
But I was wrong… “This has got to be the worst amount of trouble I had got myself into ever”.
There was a pit and in that pit was a portal that leads to the twisting nether. All around the portal there were mutated plants, animals and people. All unusual and vibrant colours! Some of them even glowed and flashed! I thought “oh God” then sneezed.
One of the things turned and saw the torch, it gurgled something like “flom grogh monhluah”. Then all the others turned and in their own way ran towards me. Trudging, slithering and sliding onwards. I hurled the torch on the ground and sprinted back the way I come.

I stared at the gargoyles and their lips were moving in a desperate way as if trying to warn me about something. The nearest gargoyle's feet stretched and te gargoyle stepped towards me. Once the creature was in front of me, it's wings emerged and the gargoyle's eyes glowed the same color as the shard had before. Just then he leaped back, and a hand grabbed me from behind. The shard started vibrating as if warning me of something. I took the shard out to protect myself, but I stopped in my tracks to see the shard glowing. I felt sleepy at the sight and everything glowed as bright as the shard that glowed in my hands. I awoke in my room, and a figure leaped from the shadows and demanded for the shard talisman. It attacked me, and I screamed...
