You don’t expect ghosts on sunny days, do you? Joe and Callum definitely didn’t when they went to the beach that day. Anyway, who ever heard of ghosts on a beach? In crumbling castles and old cobwebbed buildings, yes. On a stormy night with thunder and lightning, yes. But on a baking hot afternoon, with the sky a piercing blue, and seagulls swirling lazily above the waves? No. Besides, other people would be there, surely? Their parents wouldn’t have let them go otherwise. But when they arrived, the boys saw that the small beach was completely empty. They grinned. No one to tell them to be quiet! They let the dogs off the leads and began to kick a ball.
That was when Joe heard the first whisper.
