All I did was go downstairs to get myself a glass of water. It was dark outside and there was no traffic, so I suppose it must have been about 4 o'clock in the morning.

I'm often awake at strange hours. Mum says it's because I spend too much time staring at computer screens. She may be right, but the point I'm trying to make is that I wasn't scared, or even worried. I hadn't been woken by a strange noise; and before you ask, I definitely wasn't dreaming. As I turned on the tap, a flickering light made me look towards the window. Something quite extraordinary was happening in the garden…

I was drawn to the smell of chocolate ice-cream through my kitchen window, it´s my favourite ice-cream flavour. The radiant light was red and blue and falling from the sky. Astonished at what I was witnessing I went out to the backyard to investigate this strange object. A circular blue and red flickering light which was a ball that seemed like it had travelled from another planet was hovering over the grass seemingly being held up by the flickering vivid lights. It was a size of a basketball and made an obnoxious beeping racket.

A strange compulsion came over me, so I bent over to touch the mystical ball and it opened up gracefully like a flower blooming. A black circular speaker rose up. It had a play and and stop button so I pushed play…

A blinding green light made me nauseous, I felt as if I was about to faint. My hands seemed to be fading away. I was lost and no one knew me. I forget my name, my age, my mind.   History was repeating itself in front of me. Familiar faces appeared but no one I knew.  A hairdryer the size of a planet blasted me through endless dimensions.  I hit a blank wall that was more like a bubble or a giant cobweb. My house, friends, memories were all there coming back to me. I started to re-generate into a tiny microchip with billions of wires in a never ending cycle.   I was existing but not knowing how.

Hang on. What? Wait a second. I wake up, it was a dream.

Just as I think that something happens. I think something else. Something else happens with electricity. That’s a familiar sound, that’s the sound when you start up your computer. The dream was true, I am a microchip. Oh no. I was a person before but now I’m sort of, well not. Ouch, that felt like an electric shock. I do something else and another thing happens. I can just about see the outline of a person through the computer. I feel so trapped, with whatever I think happening on a computer screen. Wait. What? Nothing’s happening anymore, it all goes black. A few, maybe hours, maybe seconds, maybe minutes later I’m turned on again. I realize what is beneath me. Earth! I’m controlling earth…

What am I meant to do now? What are all these buttons for? It’s hurting my head! I’ll just try this green one here…BEEP BEEP BEEP…This planet is now reversing. Oh no, earth is spinning out of control! It’s going backwards at 100mph!! I press the green button again, but it doesn’t do anything.
Ooh, what’s this? What’s this big red button? It says do not touch, but what else am I meant to do? It might reverse the last action. BANG. Oh no, why is that man floating? And that baby? And that giraffe?! Oh no everyone is floating into space-what do I do?! Have I just re-booted Earth?

Am I controlling the Earth? Is someone controlling me?  What’s going on with me? Who or what am I? I know it! It can’t be – has my whole life been a game?  Was I ever real?  Suddenly, everything went black. Time space stopped, I’ve been paralyzed or paused, I did this to my computer, panic shattered my mind – maybe I am some kind of Sims character!  I cannot feel anything, am I air or just a sequence of numbers?  Have I ever existed or was I always here? My mind erupted like a volcano, my thoughts were hot lava breaking me apart - terror is my only feeling.  Screaming in silence, I couldn’t even move. Misery has shaken my whole life.   Memories of me playing video games, my friends and family take over my body.  I am determined to live.

Oh this is awsome. I must not tell mum. Wait, mum is not here! This is crazy. I don’t want to be a computer. I’m just a little boy.

That was the most confusing and scariest hour of my life when I realised I had been turned into a computer!  Since then I have been trying to get out of this thing. I accidently messed up all the internet in the world, then I nearly set off a nuclear bomb and the prime minister’s cctv stopped working when I logged into it by mistake. One day my best friend logged on and I tried to say “Hello” but he couldn’t understand me. I got hungry and wanted ice cream but then I realised that ice cream is in human land not in computer land. I just wanted to go back to my cosy little warm bed. If I start screaming mum might get me out. Mum HELP ME! Mum please. Nothing happened. Suddenly on my screen a sign flashed up saying “Low memory”. I didn’t want to forget my mum. I needed to get out before my battery went too. What was I going to do? I wish I’d never touched that play button on the speaker. what have I done now!

I feel like I am tired, like I’ve spent a long day on the computer.  Is this what it feels like to be almost out of battery?  I suddenly have a brilliant wave of ideas come over me.  If I could press that red button then the ball of light could float up to me. I tried the red button and kept pressing it. I could see my friends and family floating above me in space and I looked down at the earth.  I looked around.  The ball was hanging just above the keyboard.  If only I could stop everyone floating now.  I saw an electric blue button with the word reverse labelled across it.  I pressed it and in a split second everything fell down. Including the ball - onto my keyboard!  A very small rocketing ball of rock suddenly flew down and onto the ball and landed perfectly on the stop button.  My life flashed before me. Then everything went BLACK.I found myself curled up in a small space with my dressing gown dangling on top of me. I felt around.  Wait - hands!  I have hands so I must be human! I climbed out of my wardrobe and thought. Somehow I knew my experience wasn’t a dream.

Today I will make a promise.  To never touch another computer for as long as I live.
