The city sleeps tonight;
A great beast slumbers in its lair.
It sighs with the smoke of factories
Like breath on a Winter’s morning.
It snores with the rumble of trains and traffic.
The city sleeps tonight.
The darkness dies as embers of light are born.
The embers brighten and turn into lights
slicing through the darkness
Like a bullet through the air.
The buildings stand tall, bullying the small houses into shapes. The city stretches as the dawn breaks through the mountains A plane swirls overhead, waking the people of the city. The roaring cars pass the children making their way to school. This is the city of our hearts. Maka, Rocco and Zachary, International School of Cape Town
The city lives today;
The swarm of suits rush to the tall towers,
As they are blinded by the bright beaming sun.
A sea of miserable faces stomping through the shadows on the grey pavement.
Groans are heard as buttery fingers tap at keyboards.
The city lives today.
Class 2, Cockwood Primary School, England
The city is haunted;
Naïvely the sun sleeps unaware of the happenings below,
The midnight sky overpowers the joyful beam of hope.
Horrifying footsteps creeping about,
Alcoholics lurking, craving intoxicated substances.
Creeping in the shadows of the night,
This city is haunted.
The city is waking;
The sun blinds the night sky,
It starts to fade back to soft blue.
The lurkers go back to the shadows,
The world awakens as the moon sleeps, enraged.
A typical dawn breaks, destroying any sign of pain in its wake,
This city is awake.

The city is dying.
The moans from the city shake the world as it awakes from its deep slumber.
The city is shattered and battered from mindless destruction.
Deranged devils plough through the core of the city like an enraged rhino.
Resources and substances stolen deviously by the people that
Haunt this once unharmed precious world.
The city has polluted the world because it’s factory’s and towering
Buildings which have caused the people to be seriously harmed.
The world deserted just ruins remain discarded for another world.
All that is left is just a super volcano dissolving the world every
Second. The city has just awoken, to be dead…...
