I am now totally drained, exhausted, exhilarated and proud as punch after taking part in Write Path for the first time! Those of you who know me might be surprised to realise that I have been a bag of nerves for several days - maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist. I'm always worried before doing something new and now all I can say is "Can we do it again next year, please?".

Thanks for all of the helpful advice from seasoned Write Pathers - this was a great way of working out how to go about this. I decided from the beginning to have 12 Year 7 students (we have six laptops in here), decide for them which story they were going to do (to save arguments), get Word and Write Path up ready on each computer in advance and use the drop-down screen to show the stories when they were uploaded.

The English Department here were so helpful, choosing the 12 students from Year 7, organising a teacher to help out, getting hold of some Sixth Formers who also encouraged and supported the younger students and much more. Thanks so much!

The students themselves were brilliant - taking to the whole idea with cries of "Awesome", particularly when I told them that the finished stories would be published in book form. They were up and running very quickly, and worked fantastically well. I was amazed at their flexibility when some of the paragraphs from the school before us popped up half way through our session - they simply adjusted what they had written. Our Sixth Form students helped some of the Year 7s with typing and kept them focussed on the task - huge thanks to them too!

I dealt with inevitable glitches and ICT - my desk computer crashing right at the beginning just as we began to print off the stories, keeping an eye on the later paragraphs as they appeared, saving our students' precious work onto my USB stick and uploading them and generally trying to keep to the deadline to help the next school.

A fantastic hour!
