Hi Anita - no, afraid I can't access anything like this at school either, all this has to be done from home ... often late at night after all my chores!
I've been at Christ the King RC Maths & Computing College full time since September, before that I was 3 days a week with the old librarian before she retired, that wasn't much fun really but I love the job now I'm in control! I live in Preston, let me know if you're ever over here!
Yes, Anita, though I'm a little nervous and not certain about what I am doing! I'm pretty well on my own here too.
I just sent you an email message I think - asking for help as to where the Participating Schools form is, cabn't find it! Have you done that?
Think I must have missed this comment before, I hadn't answered it. I live in Preston and work in a small high school, have been here full time for just a year, was part time the year before. It's been jolly hard work so far as we've had a few problems over the year, but I do enjoy it, it's getting better.
I work in several schools. I used to be a full time teacher of MFL in Hampshire. Now I write for children and young adults and am a university lecturer in English and Creative Writing. I do tons of school visits.
Yes, we do have videoconferencing facilities, and we would prefer to use it rather than use skype, as videoconferencing is so much clearer. If you have videoconferencing as well, we need to set up a time with our techies beforehand to check that everything is working properly. Let me know - Caroline
Hi Anita, read your blog, and yes, I'm nervous about this too! But you are on the Friday, by then it will all have fallen into place. And you have managed to make contact with your schools, I'm waiting for mine to get back to me.
I've just got my stories from the Year 7s back to mark this weekend, and managed to put up a Write Path display. Will be in touch with you after I have done mine to let you know how we got on - Wednesday. Only a week to go!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Anita. My IT techie says Lancs don't allow Skype so we couldn't do that (think I would have argued the case personally!) Our links didn't have videoconference so we tried a webcam and it wasn't totally successful - no sound. But the pupils had fun waving to each other!
It was fine Anita, but my advice is for a first time to make sure you have someone around to help you. I'll give you a call Thursday if I remember!! I'd be happy to come over and be your assistant!!
Good morning Lynda
Read your blog and it seems (apart from slight hitches) that you all had a fantastic day. Not sure about the Skype info as I am sure we have it here! I do have help on Friday but if you are serious about come over I am sure you would be a great asset to the event. (but I am sure your joking!! lol)
I will let you know how we get on.
I was joking actually, but can't come anyway Anita, have classes on Friday (my worst day of the week actually)!
Yes, I felt it was a real shame about the Skype - but it's what my IT techie told me - the local authority didn't want us to use it (feel like writing to them!). I still don't understand and am actually a little disgruntled that we are a maths & computing college and can't Skype ... well, we didn't really manage anything and the communication between the youngsters is a big part of the whole thing. I can't say more on here but I do find it sad when the government are wanting this kind of communication to take place... will chat to you more when we finally meet up - but I hope you do well!
You WILL enjoy it though, it is great fun!!
