Story 4 Julia Jarman

I found it in the shed at the bottom of the garden, in the dark, at the back.  Hidden. Whoever put it there didn’t want it to be found. I would never have come across it if I hadn’t got locked in. While I waited for the others to find me I started foraging around to relieve the boredom.  Luckily I had a torch and that’s how I saw it, sticking out from between the pages of an old telephone directory. I opened the book and for several minutes I just stared, but when the door opened I hid it again –in my pocket. Right from the start I knew it was important but I didn’t know then that it was going to change my life.

Flotsam, her dog came trotting into the shed. Julia felt relieved. She took out the map from her pocket and looked at it again, examining it carefully. Flotsam looked at Julia, Curiously. Suddenly, the torch fell through the hole in her pocket. “Oh” Julia said picking up the torch. She turned on the light, and shone it at the map, Flotsam came to sniff. “What is it boy?” he used his nose to flip over the map. She shone the light in it, and to her surprise she found a word…A word she’s never heard before “ejina”? She wisperd. But before she could take a closer look, Julia and Flotsam were whirled into the map “AHHHH!!”Julia shouted. In Flotsams case “WOOOOOOOF!!!”Next thing they knew they were in a forest. Not just any forest. A magical forest! “Wow! “Said Julia Amazed, Standing up. She brushed herself of. Suddenly she saw something….Something horrifyingly horrid.

A monster! It had red eyes and spooky clothes. Julia screamed and Flotsam barked. They turned and ran in the opposite direction. They could hear the monster running behind them. They ran and ran until they were getting out of breath. They couldn’t hear the monster anymore.

Finally, they stopped. They looked around them. They saw lots of butterflies that had sparkles coming out of them. They saw rainbow coloured trees and a pink river.

In front of them they saw a wooden house. Feeling afraid, Julia and Flotsam decided to go in and find out who lived there.

They went closer to the house and looked through the window. They saw a little old lady. She looked like she was doing a little bit of magic because she was holding a wand. She looked very busy but Julia still knocked on the door.

“Come on in,” called out the little old lady. Julia and Flotsam ran inside quickly in case the red-eyed monster had caught up with them. Once inside, Julia gasped. She just could not believe her eyes.

An evil WITCH. They ran as fast as they could.

Suddenly the trees fell down on them and trapped them. Julia’s body was completely trapped. Flotsam tugged at the branches with his teeth, desperate to get her free.  Suddenly the trees started to talk. “If you want to pass you must say the secret password”. Julia struggled free and looked at flotsam with a puzzled expression. “Password? What do they mean?” Then she remembered the piece of paper she had shoved in her pocket. She took it out and looked at it. Ejina. That must be the password. “Ejina, Ejina”, she shouted.

The trees parted and there stood a …………..

massive bubble!!!. It was the size of a mansion!.The password worked suddenly the bubble opened to allow them inside.Once inside they realised the bubble was floating and they were again being transported back to the forest with the rainbow trees and the pink river.

Feeling afraid once more of seeing the red eyed monster they started to get very nervous Flotsam started barking very loudly"WOOF WOOF". Julia started to notice things changing the river was now black, the rainbow was now black she could see a glow of red.......was it the monsters eyes glaring from below?.

The bubble started to vibrate they were shaking from head to toe.

Suddenly without warning they were released from the bubble , they landed back in the forest with a big thump!.The monsters eyes were no longer visible.... had the bubble taken him?.

As Julia and Flotsam were released, they were confused, but knew that they must run. They were running along, when they noticed a long, glistening and red path. “Hey, quick, this looks like a good way out of here!” They pulled out their map, and found that this path led them to the ‘Forest of Fortune’. Turning onto the path, Julia realised that this wasn’t any ordinary trail; it made her feet feel as though they were treading on squelchy banana skins and the smell was horrendous. It was like rotten eggs and fish. Suddenly, it started to vibrate violently, followed by a tremendous roar. Now terrified, Julia and Flotsam turned around, to see that the path was rising up and curling behind them. “Hoooowwwwlll” Flotsam let out a deafening yowl, whilst Julia shivered in fright. There was no other option, but to edge their way towards the dark, black hole. Ferociously, she was catapulted into the hole! Julia screamed as she was hurtled through the air, grabbing Flotsam as she went. The last thing she remembered was everything going dark and quiet, as she lost conciseness. Julia was woken up by the feel of Flotsam’s tongue on her face. She slowly sat up, taking in her surroundings. Julia felt like she was in a dream but as it dawned on her that she wasn’t, she began to weep. She looked down, and found herself sitting amongst some white sharp stones that looked exactly like teeth. She gradually came to the realisation that she was in the mouth of the venomous Red Eyed Monster!!!

She let out an almighty loud Screammmmmmm!!!!!. Flotsam barked a deafening bark!! .Oh no what were they to do?. How could they get out?.

Just then Julia remembered that she had brought some space dust with her pocket money and lucky for her it was in her coat pocket.

An amazing idea popped into her head !. She tore open the packet and released the space dust into the monsters mouth. Ha ha !.

Next all they could hear was.......pop, pop, pop, crackle, crackle ,crackle, the monsters mouth was out of control, he did not know what was going on.

Suddenly those pointy white stones that were actually his scary, hard, crushing teeth opened up and this was the moment that Julia and Flotsam made their escape.......

Julia scooped up Flotsam and leaped out of the monsters mouth, over the gleaming razor like teeth. She landed with a thud on the hard, black ground. As she landed, Julia let go of flotsam and he scrabbled over the floor. Julia turned round in time to see the monster rear up onto its powerful hind legs. When he had gathered in his surroundings, Flotsam made a mad dash off into the dark forest, not looking back. “Flotsam!” shouted Julia as she scrambled onto her feet. Julia sprinted into the murky forest of blackness. She glanced back briefly and saw the monster gaze in her direction and make chase!

Meanwhile, Flotsam started to slow down as he realised that the monster was nowhere to be seen. All of a sudden it was deathly quiet, and dark. Suddenly Flotsam felt alone. As he started to whimper. Where was Julia? Flotsam walked in a small circle, and he lay down by the trunk of one of the many shadowy, lofty trees.

Julia was suddenly aware that she had no idea where she was! She felt scared. She shivered as she slumped against a tree. Would she ever find her way out?!
