2/9/15 Priory School story 2 Helen Moss

It was Dad’s idea, of course. He’s into all that survival stuff. His idea of a family holiday is crossing the Sahara by camel. We had to drink our own pee. Last year it was Siberia. I lost three toes to frostbite. So when the auditions for a new TV show called Extreme Jungle Family Challenge came up he was first in line. The idea was simple; drop an “ordinary” family into the Amazon rainforest with a couple of video cameras and leave them to it . .

Which is how I came to be wading through piranha-infested water in search of catfish with my little brother, Cub, and my twin sister, Rainbow. Mum and Dad were back at the swampy clearing we now called home, working on the hut.

Cub heard it first. He dropped his spear and looked up. Then I heard it too; the whir of a helicopter above the insect chirps and howler monkey cries that filled the tree canopy.

Rainbow frowned. ‘That’s weird. The TV crew aren’t due to pick us up for weeks.’

The helicopter landed, we didn’t know who was in the helicopter, and we thought it was the TV crew. But no, it was a horrible zombie, not 1 but 500. It was a zombie apocalypse. Rainbow slipped on a stone, the zombies came at her but she luckily escaped by flying with a pink, fluffy unicorn because she blew a whistle and a unicorn came out of nowhere. When she escaped the unicorn flew to the future. Rainbow got lost in the woods. The woods were scary, dark and mysterious. All of a sudden Rainbow turned into a unicorn. She still talks strangely. She tried to find her sister, mum and dad but when she found them they didn’t recognize her, because she was still a unicorn.

We hid from all of the zombies, Rainbow went to give her mum a hug, but unfortunately she stabbed her mum in the head with her horn and she forgot she was a unicorn…

Rainbow realized that it was a nightmare she couldn't escape from so she ran as fast as her hooves could take her. She ran and ran but the zombies surrounded her. Rainbow had to think for a moment she looked around and in a instant she saw a rusty old barrel behind a shutdown bakery called Johns Doughnuts. She ran to as fast as she could, when she got to it, she immediately pushed the barrel in the zombies path. Rainbow was crying and crying but she realized that crying wouldn’t help.

She then remembered when she was younger and watching a TV show about a pink fluffy unicorn that said magic words. When the unicorn said the word her injured friend was all better so Rainbow tried to say the same words that the unicorn said to save her mum. She didn't quite know how to do it at first but after trying and trying a miracle happened and her mum came back to life. Rainbow was incredibly happy to have her mum by her side again. Her mum hopped on Rainbows back and the pair of them desperately tried to find the other two. They eventually found them and went off to kill all the zombies and they did they went back to the base fighting everything in their way and nothing stopped them but then they came across something that they could not defeat but then something amazing happened. They won the fight with the strange lion / octopus but then something extremely bad happened. The world was coming to an end was what they thought.

All of a sudden out of the clear blue sky, another helicopter appeared, sending the remains of my family running for our lives. Finally, we had found safety in our hut. Dad peeked through the door of our hut that was just about a jar open, to check for those petrifying flesh adoring zombies.

It was the middle of the night and I couldn’t get to sleep so I stayed up worrying about what lay beyond the thin hay walls. Out of nowhere, I heard a violent rustle in one of the bushes outside our temporary home.

Our hut door started to creek open slowly giving me time to attempt to awake my father, but hit was useless he just wouldn’t wake up and neither was my siblings; so I just got as far away from the door as possible. As so, the door flung open and a mysterious figure immerged in.

But… This time it wasn’t a zombie it was a harmless man. My family awoke as they heard a voice explaining that he was here to help them escape and that the zombies were just a hologram that was put there by the makers of extreme family jungle challenge.

Fortunately the video cameras caught this and it went live on air so the whole world saw to never put themselves in the hands of the company that we without thinking signed ourselves into.

And eventually we finally arrived back at our real home, with the help of the brave men that came to save us.
